The next Celebrate Memories Scrapbook Weekend will be March 29 -April 1, 2012 with an option to arrive on Thursday for some extra cropping time.

The registration form is available on our website. Please note that we will be occupying the entire conference center and there is only room for 50 guests. Registration starts November 7, 2011.

Our crop will be held at the gorgeous Whispering Pines Conference Center in West Greenwich, Rhode Island. It's about an hour and 15 minutes from Hartford and is located directly off of I-95 (Exit 5B) in RI, minutes from the Connecticut border. The beautiful conference center is located on 2,300 acres of land owned by the University of Rhode Island with breathtaking views of Lake Eisenhower. It is located directly on the Lake for a very peaceful & serene setting that we instantly fell in love with when we visited.

The food is delicious (we tried it ourselves to make sure it was good and we have to say that it was WAY beyond our expectations)...and so plentiful that we know you won't be hungry at all during your stay! There are numerous buffets, snacks around the clock, continuous beverage service with full coffee/tea bar, sodas, water. There is even continental breakfast delivered directly to you cropping area for those of you who sleep late and miss out on the breakfast buffets! You will never be hungry, we promise. The chef will also prepare vegetarion & gluten-free menus - They have thought of everything at Whispering Pines and we know you will LOVE this place. Their service is impeccable!

Your weekend includes so many scrapbooker-friendly amenities that we are positive that this will become your favorite annual scrapbooking destination!

Scrapbook Art Project How-To ~ Easter Egg Garland

We love displaying our homemade garlands each year so I thought I'd share this one made for Easter - it's never too early to start working on Spring projects {especially from underneath all of this snow!}

Here are the ingredients for this project:

16 wooden football/egg shapes (mine are from Michael's)

4-5 sheets of scrapbook paper (I used scraps in spring colors from random companies)

9 yards of spring ribbon

Alphabet stickers or stamps (to spell Happy Easter)

Sandpaper & Ink square (I used Around the Block Antique tool in red - one of my favorite tools!)

Purple gel pen (to outline the alphabet stickers)

Crop-a-Dile (to punch holes in the wooden eggs)

Modge Podge Matte

Cross Metal Accent

Adhesive

First adhere your egg onto a sheet of paper, placed upside down. This way you can cut the egg out of the paper, rather than trace & cut. This saves tons of time! Cut out all of your eggs (don't worry about being perfect - you will be sanding the edges next).

Next sand & ink all the edges of your eggs.

After you ink the edges, allow them to dry a few minutes before handling them.

Next, line up your garland in the order you would like to see the patterns so that you do not end up with any matching papers next to one another.

Add the alphabet stickers or stamps or other embellishments. Outline stickers with gel pen in contrasting color to make them stand out.

Paint eggs with Modge Podge to seal & protect.

Punch holes into the sides of each egg with the Crop-a-Dile tool or another heavy duty hole punch.

Cut ribbons into 4" lengths and tie eggs together.

Hang & enjoy this beautiful Easter season!

Party Favors - Love the Luau

I've been working on some pixie sticks flower pots for my dd's annual Luau party this weekend. Here is a picture of one of the hundreds of these I've made this week :)

I used mostly SU stamps & punches but the paper is Penny Lane.

I placed each into a cello bag and then added them to larger goodie bags (which are brown paper bags that I had my dd stamp with the Luau stamp set).

Celebrate Memories Scrapbook Weekend in CT featured in the Hartford Courant

The registrations are now coming in daily and we are so very excited to have this opportunity to scrapbook with all of you New England paper crafters!

The semi-annual Celebrate Memories Scrapbook Weekend in Connecticut will be September 25-27, 2009 at the Crowne Plaza in Enfield, CT. The Crowne Plaza is located on the border of MA so it's easily accessible to everyone!

Hi everyone!

The yearly UBP festivities are hard to ignore if you're a blogger...and if you are not familiar with the Ultimate Blog Party, then join me and thousands of others online as we celebrate our "blog-iness".

Thanks for visiting the Scrap Princess blog. I am a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator so I tend to post alot about stamping. I am also a Christian stay-at-home mom to one {adorable} 5-year old (the Lil Scrap Princess). My husband and I have been married almost 10 years...he is one {fabulous} guy who works at home for a large telecommunications company (think of the sponsor mentioned when you text your vote for your favorite American Idol ;) doing some super cool computer development.

I am originally from a super small town in Western Pennsylvania {Mt. Pleasant} which boasted a record number of 4,000+ residents when I graduated from high school in 1995. I like to call it my starting point - definitely too small for my city girl liking - but it grounded me and I'm proud of Mt. Pleasant. It has that special olde-time charm about it and the people are so nice. It would remind you of the towns you see in the movies where everyone knows your name, your business & would call your parents the second they saw you in any kind of trouble....lol. It was fun growing up there but I always wanted to travel. I moved to Connecticut 14 years ago, fresh outta high school :)

I scrapbook, therefore I am broke. I scrapbook everyday {well almost} and am usually found working on graphic design projects when I am not scrapbooking or stamping. I love to write and contribute to several blogs & websites. In my free time {hahaha ok so that doesn't truly exist}, I also volunteer at Church and the Home & School Association, where our daughter goes. I coordinate our Moms of Preschoolers (MOPS) group here in the neighboring town, Wethersfield. I teach at the local community college & parks & recreation department (scrapbooking classes).....well now this sounds like a resume. Anyways, I'm busy & love it!

We have been traveling non-stop since December 19th (in the Connecticut snowstorm that blessed us with 14" of snow to drive through that weekend). Tomorrow brings an end to our holiday travels.....and looking forward to a nice sunny trip to Beaches Resort in Jamaica!!!

Our little Kiddieokee star won the Karaoke Contest last week from Mix 93.1 in Springfield, MA! She sang her little heart out and has been singing now to anyone who will listen. Apparently over 1,000 people felt the same way about her video as we did - that she was the best contestant!

She won us a week's vacation at Beaches Resort in Turks & Caicos or Jamaica (our choice) that is all-inclusive! We have never been on a vacation out of the US - actually we have never been on a family vacation since we are always spending our time-off visiting relatives. What a blessing this is going to be for us!

Chipboard Altered Birds

Altered Chipboard Birdies: Grungy

This project is in honor of my best friend's baby shower, which is in a few weeks an features a blue bird theme.

First, you will need some chipboard shapes (you can use other items besides birds) and the paper you would like to adhere to the birds. I chose a blue bird green/blue rustic paper:

Next you will want to put adhesive on the entire surface of the birds (the top side) and smooth out your paper on top of the birds (paper front facing upwards as show in the picture above). Then cut out the birds from the paper as close as possible to the shapes but it's ok to leave some room because you will be sanding the edges. I used my Cutter Bee scissors because the tip is very fine and some of my birds had alot of detailed edges.

Here is what your bird will look like once you cut around the paper:

Next, I used the Crop-a-Dile to punch a hole & add an eyelet "eye" for my little birdie:

Here are a flock of my birdies prior to sanding and inking the edges:

A close-up of the sanded edge - to do this, I used sand paper, 80 grit and rubbed the edges of each bird. This gives it a grunge look and also conforms the paper closer to the chipboard:

Next I inked each bird edge with a marker - I used brown. By dragging the thicker marker tip around the edge, it gave the birdies a more worn, distressed feel:

Hope this inspires some of you to work with chipboard - I'd love to hear or see some of your own projects!

I have been using full printable sticker label sheets for the past few years. Ebay shipping has never been easier for me. So I'd like to introduce you to http://www.onlinelabels.com/.

My last order was shipped within a day and I received them within a few days after I ordered them. When it comes to selection, they have so many colors, shapes & sale items - you will be stickering everything in your home!

The last project I used the labels for were my daughter's Luau Party name tags. I had translated the kid's names into their Hawaiian names for the party and printed them on the label sheets.

Then I attached them to cardstock and stamped them with Aloha and laminated them with my Scotch Lamination machine.

I attached some great blue & green nubby yarn to them after I punched holes with my Crop-a-Dile so they could hang from their necks. They were a big hit!

Obituary for Common E. Sense

Obituary - Common E. Sense

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old she was since her birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. She will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children are in charge).Her health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened her condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Aspirin, sun lotion or a Band-aid to a student, but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn' t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by her parents, Truth and Trust; her husband, Discretion; her daughter, Responsibility; and her son, Reason. She is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know my Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I'm a Victim.

............Not many attended her funeral because so few realized she was gone.

Summer Days in Hartford

Lazy summer days.....have left me offline, unplugged & able to enjoy more time with my family. Unplugged feels funny at first but it is definitely worthwhile to us while our daughter is little. This is her last summer before she starts kindergarten & schooling every day! Wow, it's hard to think of time going by so quickly.

Actually the days I'm talking about, they're not lazy, more like SUPER busy. My calendar looks like a war took place on the spaces - crossed out, rewritten activities.....You wouldn't believe all the things we have done so far in the 5 weeks since school let out.

Trips to PA

Water parks

Playdates

Seeing Snow White @ the Chevy theater

KidzBop concert

Sprinkler & slip n' slide fun

Swimming 4-5 times a week

Eating at our favorite lobster shack in New London

the list goes on and on.....

And it isn't any more bare on my calendar for the next 6 weeks of summer - whew!

So if I am absent for strange amounts of time, do not worry. I shall return. I have TONS of pictures from our summer adventures to scrapbook & alter. I am a woman with a project list!

Ohhhhhh and CKC Hartford is Oct 2, 3, & 4!!!!! First time here in the new convention center! I will be working for an uber-cool scrapbook company at the convention on Saturday ;) and cropping and attending classes all weekend too.

My seven facts:

1. I grew up in a small farm town in Pennsylvania...similiar to those you see on tv, where everyone knows everyone's business and you cannot do anything without someone calling your parents. Small farm town = Mt. Pleasant, PA

2. My love of scrapbooking started when I was 13 years old. And I am ummmmm.....on my 2nd anniversary of being 29 hehehe.....just can't admit I am 30 most days. I feel 20!

3. My first scrapbooks were the walls in my bedroom......I put up pictures, magazine pages, quotes, had a signature wall where all my friends would come over and sign their names and add funny comments. It was a big hit in high school!

4. I was once caught skipping school in order to go to Punxsatawney, PA to see if the groundhog could see his shadow (and of course he did).....my punishment was not detention but instead I was given the "opportunity" to tutor younger high school kids.

5. My family is the most important thing to me in the world :)

6. My daughter was a miracle baby - I had zero to negative chances in getting pregnant but God blessed my husband and I with a sweet little girl who now blesses all of those around her.

7. I LOVE coffee...particularly Starbucks & Dunkin Donuts....I alternate between the two each week.

Happy Mother's Day

This year Mother's Day has a new meaning for me......a fresh start to the year.

Last Tuesday I had an operation on my sinuses to fix the constant sinus infections I was having due to them being blocked. It has been a rough week to say the least but now I am on the road to recovery and wanted to wish you all a wonderful Mother's Day!

I am looking forward to spending the day with my family & enjoying some ice cream later...big plans huh? Well since I have eaten a total of 2 meals the last 6 days, ice cream sounds pretty good to me. And FYI if you have a Cold Stone Creamery near you, they give out FREE ice cream to moms on Mother's Day! How awesome is that!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Did any leprechauns visit your homes last night? If so, I'd love to hear about them and/or how you celebrate St. Patrick's Day!

I hid clues around the house with the colors of the rainbow and had our daughter search for them in order to get to the pot of gold. Or in her case the green basket with gold pipe cleaners lol.

She had such a fun time going from clue to clue and also searching for the pranks that Paddy the Leprechaun had played on us while we were sleeping. Many things were upside down and inside out! What a silly morning we all had! We started the day off with Lucky Charms and I am hoping the green milk and bathtub water will go over well later too :)

Tackle it Tuesday - Mudroom Renovation

Well this week I accomplished more than one thing - yay!

First off I did do my Once a Month cooking on Sunday and I made 3 full weeks of meals!!!! I am so proud, let me tell you!

I am still sore from Sunday and along with the painting I did yesterday and today in the mudroom - I could use a nice massage :) Thank goodness hubby is taking me to Cape Cod on Friday for the weekend and I am getting a massage while I am there (belated anniversary/Valentine's day gift)

This week I am tackling something that I have actually been looking forward to - my Once-a-Month Cooking menu for March! I purchased the Once-a-Month Cooking book by Mimi Wilson & Mary Beth Lagerborg after speaking to several other moms in my MOPS group. They all raved about it and I have to tell you - this book is awesome!

Once-a-Month Cooking gives you recipes, how-to guides - even what tasks to complete in what order. It truly does look like a wonderful plan to save me time and to save me from the "what's for dinner" question at 5:pm every day...

Starbucks For a Buck?

Starbucks is testing a new marketplace strategy with $1 cup of joe & free refills. It is currently being offered in the Seattle area Starbucks cafes....wonder if it will catch us here on the East Coast? And I am wondering how offering cheaper cups of coffee will help it's image. I prefer Starbucks coffee over other fast-food chains not only for the taste & selection but also because of the ambiance. Who sits in McDonald's or Dunkin Donuts to relax or listen to some cool new music? I surely don't and am completely perplexed as to how this is going to save Starbucks from its competition. Travel the path of least resistance is for the mundane. What happened to the experience? This Starbucks fanatic won't be partaking in the $1 cup of coffee. I'll take my regular - venti, mocha latte, skim milk, no whip - thank you very much!

Last year we started our home remodeling projects by gutting our basement and waterproofing the area. We had huge plans for a nicely refinished area by Christmas but realistically it will take us until Christmas 2009 until we get the room done.....just like any home renovation - it takes alot longer to materialize a space into what you wished when you start gutting a space and have no idea what is truly behind those old walls. Ours ended up being in pretty bad shape and the remodel will now be done in parts. I am so happy with a dry basement right now and nice new insulated windows :)

So we moved on to another smaller project that we have wanted to work on since we moved into our 1930's Colonial in 2003 - the living room! We started out by repainting the entire room and all of the trim. It was previously all the same drab beige - extremely sad looking lol. Now it is vibrant and has white trim. The fireplace looks the most improved in my opinion.

We have to replace alot of furniture in our living room so after researching online places, I came across this site: FurnitureFromHome.

Real Resolutions for Moms

"... But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:13b-14 (ESV)

Devotion:

It's that time when many of us are making New Year's resolutions, so how about some resolutions for mothers? Here are mine:

I will put my Bible before the television, the radio, the telephone, and even before good Christian books, for my children will know my priorities by the way they see me spend my free time.

I will make my prayer requests known before God and my children, enlisting their help in the process and informing them of the outcome, for by letting them help when I petition our Lord will they learn of a living God who still answers prayer.

When times of crisis, conflict or confusion arise, I will hit my knees before I hit the phone knowing that by my example my children will discover that although friends are important, God alone is the one who holds the solution to life's every problem.

I will erase the words "luck" and "lucky" from my vocabulary and will instead by my speech point my children toward the One who orchestrates every detail of our lives and brings all good things to pass, for by this my children will learn of an omniscient God.

When bad things happen, I'll neither grumble nor complain, but will instead help my children see that in the scope of our lives even the bad times are allowed for a reason, for by this my children will learn quiet trust in their Maker.

When normal childhood mishaps occur, I will remember that although difficult, it is still easier to remove grape juice from off-white carpet than to erase harsh and unloving words hurled at a child whose chubby little fingers have failed her, for by this my children will see a God who understands when our best efforts fall short.

When my children have witnessed something ugly in me - unkind words, an angry temper, "harmless" gossip, biting sarcasm or even my infamous "mommy pout" when things don't go my way - I will confess it as sin before them seeking their forgiveness, for by this my children will develop the much needed habit of wiping their spiritual slate clean before God and man.

I will teach my children the importance of cleanliness and order while at the same time remain sensitive to the fact that a skinned knee or hurt feeling is more crucial than a spotless floor or uncluttered counter, for by this my children will learn to value people above things.

I will make time for the lonely, the sick, the elderly, the difficult to love, and will bring my children along, for with each afternoon visit, each ride to the doctor, each raked lawn or washed window they will have opportunity to serve Jesus by serving the "least of these."

I will make our home a haven of rest and retreat from the outside world and a welcomed place for my children's friends, for with each impromptu backyard soccer game, each video viewed on a rainy day, each cup of hot cocoa or chocolate chip cookie, my children will have opportunity to practice the art of Christian hospitality thereby learning to share all God has given them.

I will by my actions and my speech let my children see a mom love their dad, for by this will my children sense family stability at a time when marriages all around them are crumbling.

I will not require of my children obedience, honesty, patience or kindness without first being willing to submit to the same rules whether in speed limit, in miscounted change from the grocery store or when answering a toddler for the fourteenth time, for by this my children will see a mother who is also learning and not a perfect parent to whom they'll never measure up.

In all things will I remember that more is caught than is taught.

There are little eyes upon you, mom. You are the first Bible your children will ever read.

The Winter Cold is Upon my House

Well after getting through the holidays unblemished by the hacking, sneezing, coughing friends, church-goers & shoppers - we have all finally been worn down by the 2008 winter cold bug.....
And it hasn't been pretty here either!
My daughter caught pneumonia last week and she has been home-bound for 10 days and is finally returning to school this afternoon. Boy is she happy to get back out of this house! And I am thrilled to see her back to normal. It is so heart-breaking to watch your child suffer through a fever (or anything!) I kept prayers going that she would be alright and after going to the hospital for her xrays and getting her antibiotics, things started to turn around. *Praise God*

My best friend & her husband (Melissa & Greg) drove from Greensburg, PA to visit us this past weekend and I managed to get by with my sore throat & minor ear problem while they were here. I didn't want to ruin their trip by being sick in bed so I pushed myself along. Melissa and I have been friends since we were in elementary school. I miss her daily - she is one of my dearest friends! I was so excited to have them come visit us! This was their first trip to CT and we plan on having them here more often.

We did manage to go out shopping (of course) and purchase some beautiful accessories for both of our homes at Kirklands. Their prices are incredible! I am so addicted to that store! I purchased some gorgeous pictures for my new living room for under $45 - for two of them! I'll be sure to post some pictures this week, after I get them up.

Dinner Friday night was at Churrascaria Braza in Hartford. This Brazilian place is one of our favorite restaurants. They serve you tableside so every cut of meat they offer is brought on a huge skewer and they cut off pieces for your to eat. It is truly a unique dining experience:

"Churrascaria (choo-rah-scah-REE-ah) is the name used to describe a restaurant that serves meat, mostly grilled, and Rodizio is a method of serving the different cuts of meat that originated in the south of Brazil in the early 1800's.
The concept is to serve a wide variety of different cuts of beef, pork, lamb, chicken, etc., in succession, to each diner individually right at their table, thus there is not a traditional menu. The restaurant features a fixed-price continuous tableside service."

We had a great time! And the guys ate enough for a week! I didn't touch much food so I am glad my husband has a good appetite :)

Saturday we went to Lenny & Joe's FishTale in Madison, CT. I love the FishTale and wanted to have my friends sample some of their famous fried seafood. What visit to CT's shoreline isn't complete without having some great seafood?? We managed to walk along the beach at the Wharf and collect some shells and take some pictures:

All in all we had a great time with our dear friends and my sinus infection/cold is subsiding. I am getting things back to normal around here so be sure to stop by daily to read up!

Tackle it Tuesday

I finally tackled the curtains in my guest room and I have to say the IKEA double curtain rod made my life so much easier. I was able to hang the front curtains on their own rod. I made them from fabric I purchased at Jo-Ann's on clearance. The colors are a beautiful sea blue/green/navy flourish. They reminded me of some of my favorite stamps from Stampin Up.

The gauze curtains in the background are from IKEA and I spent a total of $40 on both windows! Isn't that amazing???

Plus I got some practice using my Singer sewing machine. The only problem I can see is that the gauze curtains need have the hem fixed. One panel hangs crooked and it is driving me crazy LOL.

So who hasn't made a resolution to lose weight this year? If you haven't, then you are part of the minority....almost everyone resolves to either lose a few extra pounds or tone their body.

Nickelback Rockstar Scrapbook Album

For Christmas I made my sister-in-law a scrapbook album as a tribute to our year and a half on the road with Nickelback.

Their All The Right Reasons Tour was one of the most incredible adventures of my life and we made so many new friends - band members, crew members, fan club members....it was so much fun.

Michelle (my sister-in-law) and my girlfriend, Lucy (Life As It Is) and I shared a total of 20+ concerts on the tour. We flew as far as Kansas City, MO and had planned to travel to Canada for some shows but we ran out of money, LOL. I can say that for what it cost it was more than worth it (except for the illnesses we all had from lack of sleep and food and sharing Chad's water bottle ;)

The album, papers, stickers and chipboard I used for her Nickelback Rockstar Scrapbook album was all from the Rock Star line by DCWV.

I had so much fun making this album. Not only did I get to relive all the memories of the past 2 years during the Nickelback tour but also remember how blessed I am to have such wonderful family and friends.

This album will be re-made for myself in the upcoming months in the 12x12 format so that I can preserve some of the 1,200 pictures I took of Nickelback, Hoobastank, Hinder, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, Trapt, Daughtry & Staind.
